Will has championship title in his sights in second F4 season

BRDC F4 Winter Championship winner Will Palmer has re-signed with the HHC Motorsport team for 2015 and warned his rivals: “My next goal is to win the championship.”

Palmer’s team-mate at HHC next year will be Harri Newey, son of legendary F1 designer Adrian, who will be contesting his first full season in car racing.

It will be Palmer’s second full season in F4, after he scored two race victories and five other podium finishes in the main season’s BRDC F4 Championship in 2014 in an HHC-run car.

He went on to dominate the eight-race Winter Championship with four wins and three other top-three places. Palmer’s closest Winter Championship challenger was Brazilian Gaetano di Mauro, a protégé of former F1 star Rubens Barrichello.

Palmer said: “I’m really pleased to be continuing in F4 with HHC Motorsport in 2015. Having had such success together this year, leading to the Winter Series title, the title is the only goal for next season.

“I’m sure it will be very competitive once again, but with all we have learnt together this year I’m very confident of being right in the championship fight.”

Palmer, 17, previously ran with HHC Motorsport in the Ginetta Junior Championship in 2012 and 2013.

HHC commercial director Charlie Kemp said: “We’re delighted to continue working with Will in 2015 as he progresses into his second season in the BRDC Formula 4 Championship. Will has become a key member of the team in the past few seasons, and he’s built a great working relationship with everyone in the outfit coming up from Ginetta Juniors to F4 with us.

“He established himself as a series frontrunner in 2014 and followed that up with a cracking job to win the BRDC F4 Winter Series, so we’re looking forward to building on that and enjoying even more success next season.”
