Making a last-minute decision to compete, Alyssa White (under-15) lowered her personal best for the 100m, with a winning time of 12.5sec.

Her performance places her top of the UK rankings for the 100m for under-15 girls.

She is also ranked 14th in the UK for 200m after her 26.12sec run at Basingstoke a week earlier.

Charlotte Bullard (under-13) took the opportunity to compete in the rarely-staged track event – the mile – where she recorded a time of 6min 16.4sec.

White’s rise to the UK No1 spot means that for probably the first time ever, two Chichester-area athletes sit proudly at the top of the UK national rankings. Although this is early in the season, the future for both of them is very promising.

Toby Harries has occupied his place at the top of the under-17 boys’ 200m rankings for some time thanks to his stunning time of 21.46 set indoors.

In addition, American college student Izzie Brown, from Chichester, lies just outside the UK top ten with her new high-jump best of 1.75m.
