Two golds out of four

RUSTINGTON triple-jump sensation Kayley Alcorn scooped gold at the inaugural UK School Games in Glasgow on a day of mixed fortunes for the cream of the town's brightest talent.

Alcorn's jump of 11.89m, her first of the competition, put the 16-year-old more than half a metre clear of the field '” just 14cm short of her personal best. She and fellow Worthing Harriers, Funmi Sobodu, who picked up sprint silver and a relay gold, and Kelly Denyer, were in the triumphant South East athletics team who defeated 11 other regions.

Afterwards, Alcorn insisted all the hours of toil have paid off: "I came to Glasgow to win a gold medal and that is what I have done so, naturally, I am delighted, although I know that there is a lot of hard work and improvement still to be done."
