Town were already safe

BEXHILL Town avoided relegation from the Sussex County League even before their last game win at Upper Beeding on Saturday.

The Green Machine travelled to West Sussex thinking they needed all three points to ensure they didn't go down, but a county league official informed them at half time that only one team would be relegated, which meant they were already safe.

Chairman Del Longley said: "We're staying up and that's a bit of a relief but I have no idea why they couldn't have told us that earlier."

Town's main priority now is to secure a full time manager and the club is hoping caretaker boss Paul Elphick will apply for the job. Longley added: "I'd be disappointed if Paul didn't apply as eight weeks ago it didn't look like we were going to stay up.
