ToneZone turnout is top effort in Worthing

THE annual Worthing 10k attracted more than 500 runners '“ including 24 ToneZone runners, one of the largest club entries.

Simon Gill was the first ToneZone runner home in a time of 36min 01sec. Mike Bastone was second for ToneZone in 42.57, narrowly missing his personal best.

Impressive times were recorded by several ToneZone runners with Jason Rae and Kelly Dines achieving new personal bests with Amanda Newton just missing out.

The popular South Downs marathon and relay marathon took place from its normal start at Slindon College. The demanding route follows the South Downs Way, finishing at the Queen Elizabeth County Park, and was blessed with dry, clear conditions.

ToneZone had one team of four runners in the relay – Anna Enes, Louisa Proctor, Ian Bayley and Chris Gallagher, who finished in 26th position with a collective time of 3hr 39min.

Luke Simmonds completed his first marathon in a time of 4hr 32min followed by David Butler in 4.36, Tony Hancock 5.09 and Miyako Scott 5.21.

On Sunday, the D-Day 10k took place from its usual start at Mountbatten Centre, Portsmouth.

In wet and windy conditions, four ToneZone runners took part - Grace Natoli, Gary Pidgeon, Roy Webb, Peter Chittenden and Tony Hancock.
