Speedway fans to celebrate champion's homecoming

SUPPORTERS of the Eastbourne Eagles Speedway will have a welcome chance to do some heavy duty celebrating at Arlington stadium on Saturday evening (7.30 pm start time) as they welcome home conquering hero and the new World Champion for 2007, Nicki Pedersen.

Pedersen finally wrapped the title that many had long predicted would be his with another devastating 23-point (out of a maximum 24) display in Slovenia last weekend.

With nearest challenger, and the only man who could still possibly have caught him, Swindon's Leigh Adams finishing on nine points in the same meeting, this saw the Australian's cumulative extend to 142-points, a massive 45-points behind Pedersen.

The man who Pedersen has relieved of the World title, Jason Crump will also be in attendance at Arlington on Saturday as he heads the Dorset offensive.

Both riders line up at number one for their respective teams, this pitches the pair directly into a first race head to head, one that every fan in attendance is sure to savour.

Of course that is not the only conflict that is liable to raise the collective pulse rate, Bjarne Pedersen, a maximum man in last week's play-off semi final at Coventry and newly qualified for the 2008 Grand Prix series (via the recent Vojens G.P. Challenge meeting) provides the perfect back up to Crump, whilst Eastbourne's Davey Watt, the star of many an Eagles outing, throughout 2007 while be sure to supplement Pedersen's input.

A further scan down both line ups reveals an array of cosmopolitan talent that is sure to ignite the encounter and make this latest match up between the Eagles and the Pirates as explosive as ever.

With 2-points the difference following the Sussex sides 48-46 near miss at Wimborne Road in mid June, the destiny of the aggregate bonus point is by no means clear cut and a glance at the current standings show that 3-points gained by Eastbourne against Poole tomorrow (Saturday) night would go a long way towards lifting them above Reading and into seventh place in the Elite League table.

With home clashes still to come against those same Racer's as well as fellow strugglers, the Belle Vue Aces together with one final League visit to Purfleet and the home of the Lakeside Hammers, the Eagles will remain hopeful of achieving such a finish and while not as high as they might have wished it would at least prove a respectable conclusion to the season for a team that has suffered such a tortuous run with injuries throughout the entirety of 2007.
