Soccer snapper Terry in book project

LOCAL soccer photographer Terry Buckman's work in Sussex football is set to find its way into a book about the 2007-08 season.

The author, David Bauckham, and he are looking to accumulate enough advance orders to publish it next May or June. The book will be entitled A Season Of Sussex Soccer.

Following the success of his previous books 'The Non League Football Grounds of Sussex' (2003) and last years 'Dugouts' which to date has sold in the region of 10,000 copies, Eastbourne Borough PA announcer and former Sports' webmaster David Bauckham, who has just re-launched the popular Nomad-Online website, is hoping for the support of Sussex non-League followers for his latest project.

As the book's title suggests, it will tell the story of the season in the authors' home county, predominantly using photographs and attempting to feature as many clubs as possible - from Brighton & Hove Albion down to Division Three of the County League, plus some of the women's and feeder leagues for good measure.

Although the aim is to have the book completed by May/June 2008, David is relying on subscribers having enough faith in him and pre-ordering a copy.

He explained: "Over the course of the season Terry and I will require 300 people to pre-order a copy of the limited edition book for 10. For this they will of course be guaranteed a copy at a discounted price, and will also have their name included in the Acknowledgements.

"If the book doesn't generate sufficient interest it won't be published and all money will be refunded, although I am quietly confident that I will raise the necessary funds."

The finished book will be just under A4 in size, with 128 full colour pages of the high quality photographs that David has become well known for, both through his books and also the Nomad-Online and Pyramid Passion websites. He has also had his photographs published in The Mail On Sunday and Four Four Two magazine.

Even so, he feels that teaming up with a fellow enthusiast can only be good for the project.

He said: "Terry Buckman has become a familiar face around the West Sussex grounds over the past few seasons and the quality of his photographs can be seen on his LittlehampDon website.

"We have quite different yet complimentary styles and obviously we will also have twice as many photographs to choose from."
