Sidley march on in FA Vase

SIDLEY United cruised into the next round of the FA Vase with a comfortable 3-1 victory over Hassocks.

United took the game to the visitors from the start and opened the scoring after only seven minutes.

Russell Eldridge s free kick was met by a downward header from Chris Copley and the ball bounced over goalkeeper Joel Hurding and into the net.

Hassocks rallied and equalised eight minutes into the second half when Marc Rendall half-volleyed home.

United were back in front just two minutes later when Owen Ball charged into the six yard box and finished in emphatic style.

The tie was all but won soon after when a low cross from Eldridge on the left was dropped by Hurding under pressure from Dave Carey who poked the ball home.

Hassocks had a strong penalty appeal waved away late on and were on the wrong end of some suspect refereeing decisions throughout, but they can have no complaints as they were beaten by the better side.
