Sideline makes Caroline talk of the town

WEST Sussex rider Caroline Wilkins is probably best known for her achievements riding side saddle but she is also in demand as a commentator.

From an early age the 21-year-old has enjoyed speaking in public and three years ago was invited by Doug Smith, organiser of the National Riding for the Disabled National Championships, to be their commentator.

This was the opportunity she had hoped for and has been asked back annually. The championships are held at Hartpury College in Gloucester. Riders, helpers and supporters from all over the country come for this important weekend.

This year, as in previous years, she worked all day Saturday and Sunday in the commentary box overlooking the new international indoor arena.

On the night before any competition she familiarises herself with all information needed for the following day and checks the sound levels and music systems and the two-way radios.
