See winning horses at Open Day

ARUNDEL racehorse trainer, John Dunlop, scored a notable long-distance treble on Saturday, triggered by his own home-bred gelding, Harlestone Times, a 3-1 shot in the second race at Goodwood on Saturday.

Anton Dolin, a three-year-old continued to improve, completing a double at the meeting in the one mile three furlong handicap stakes.

At York, Times Up continued the trainer’s formidable record at that course in Listed races, easily winning the LLP Grand Cup (Listed Race) with Eddie Ahern on board. This horse, which won last year’s November Handicap, gave his handler his fourth win in the York race in the last five years.

Goodwood winner Harlestone Times, is the grandson of the trainer’s late roan broodmare, Harlestone Lake, who herself won a two mile three furlong handicap at Goodwood back in 1988. Like her, Harlestone Times seems set to be a fine stayer.

Ridden by Ted Durcan, the four-year-old scored two good wins last year and was racing over a mile-and-a-half at Goodwood.

John Dunlop said afterwards: “It is nice to win a race here with him. Ted said he will get two miles since there is plenty of stamina in the mix. He suggested the Ebor Handicap could be a target and there could also be a race for him at Royal Ascot.”

He reminded racegoers that Harlestone Times is just one of the many horses at his Castle Stables in Arundel which will be on close view in his box at this Sunday’s Charity Open Morning, which runs from 10am-1pm. There will also be stalls, plants, raffles and a chance to win a share in a racehorse. An opportunity not to be missed.
