Seagulls Scene: Where Tigers roam, Seagulls can follow

Micky Adams was backing Leeds United to win the play-off final against Doncaster, but he got that wrong! Doncaster came through with a 1-0 win at Wembley.

The only goal was headed home by former Albion schoolboy James Hayter. Most Seagull fans are happy that the mighty Leeds are still in League One and look forward to another crack at them. But there was method to Micky's madness in that he hoped their promotion would make our quest this coming season easier!

Leeds with their resources, along with relegated Leicester, will be favourites to make the two automatic promotion spots. But Micky (above) says, "There is always hope for Brighton '¦ we will have a side that goes out to have a go."

Meanwhile, we don't know what the Albion management team will be. Reserve team coach Ian Chapman has decided to leave the club due to the demotion of Dean Wilkins. The future for the former manager remains unclear as he has yet to say yea or nay to the job of first team coach. Happily Adams is relaxed about his management and playing teams saying that these things will be sorted. It's only the end of May.

He wants to add six players to the squad who have experienced League One or Championship. We can only speculate at the moment that the six could include ex-loan players Thierry Racon (Charlton), Matt Richards (Ipswich) and Ian Westlake (Leeds).

One possibility is that Currie is on the menu! The 33-year-old former Albion player Darren Currie is at Luton. He has always remained on our wish-list. He came to us on a free transfer in Mark McGhee's time but was soon sold on for a 250,000 quick profit. He later impressed Adams on loan at Coventry and Dean Wilkins tried to sign him a couple of times.

It is good to learn that Gary Hart's testimonial match has been sorted. It will be against championship side Charlton Athletic at Withdean on Saturday, July 26. The Seagulls were already due to play the Addicks in a pre-season friendly but Charlton have agreed that Gary can benefit from all the match day proceeds. This will be Adams' first home game since returning as manager. Hart has been a great player for the Seagulls and has been a huge favourite of the fans. He always gave 100 per cent and played wherever needed by the team.

He was an attacking forward, an aggressive winger and a determined full back. I'm sure the fans will turn out in great numbers to support Gary. I believe that originally Portsmouth were to provide the opposition for the testimonial '“ but backed out. Perhaps this is an example of the preciousness of the Premiership. So well done Charlton!

Released left-back Sam Rents has signed for Blue Square Premier side Crawley Town. He will be one we can look out for at the Dripping Pan. Speaking of which, with all the focus on the comings and goings off the field at Lewes, and Brighton, it will be good to get back to football.

Steve King and Dean Wilkins may look at what happened to Avram Grant and have a wry smile? All three were unquestionably successful. How close were Chelsea to winning the Premiership? How close were they to winning perhaps the best club trophy in the world? (Answer '“ as close as another half-inch on John Terry's studs!). As Alan Sugar might say "Avram, you're fired". Football makes no sense.

Wilkins and Grant did have something in common. Both didn't ever look happy. Adams, however, does have a winning smile.

One last Albion connection, this time to the Hull City-Bristol City play-off for the Premiership. Yes, that wasn't a typing error '“ they played for a place in the Premiership and Hull won 1-0 with a stunning volley from Dean Windass. It is worth repeating, Hull City will be in the Premiership next season! Where Hull can go, surely Brighton, via Falmer, can follow?

Sorry '“ the connection is Brian Horton. He is now assistant manager at high-flying Hull. Twenty-two years earlier he was manager there and released Dean Windass as an 18-year-old telling him he wasn't good enough, but that Windlass should try and prove him wrong. He did with that one goal. Hull receive a 60 million prize.

Horton was the very popular Albion captain and midfielder from 1976 to 1981 scoring 41 goals in some 250 appearances.
