Rocks Review: Star of the 1970s is mourned at Nyewood Lane

Rocks legends past and present were among a huge crowd who gathered for the funeral of a former player.

Winger Kevin Guinelly was part of the successful Rocks team of the early 1970s.

He helped them win back-to-back promotions from Sussex League division two and one as they rose to the Southern League. They won a number of cups while he was at the club.

He joined Bognor from Fareham as part of an influx of players – Jack Pearce included – from the Portsmouth area secured by manager Derek Edwards.

Pearce said: “Kevin was one of the most technically gifted players around. He was also a very good cricket and tennis player. Before he joined Bognor he spent a long time with Fareham, who at that time were one of the best non-league sides in Hampshire.”

Kevin died after a battle with cancer. His funeral at Portchester Crematorium was attended by hundreds. He leaves a widow, Marilyn.
