Rocks Review: Bond and Nightingale top injury list for league opener

TIM BOND and Luke Nightingale are the main injury worries ahead of the Rocks' first league game on Saturday.

Centre-half Bond has painful bruising on his foot and this game may be too soon for him, which would leave the bosses with the problem of who should partner Stuart Axten in defence.

James Crane would be one option, with Jon Marzetti his obvious replacement at right-back, but Chris Breach or Darryl Wollers could also be in the frame for a call.

Striker Nightingale had to pull out of training on Tuesday with pain from a swollen tendon at the side of his knee, sustained in a heavy challenge in the win at Leatherhead. The physios will assess him again tonight but with Terry Dodd suspended on Saturday – and also struggling with a foot injury – Nightingale’s absence would leave the Rocks with Jason Prior as their only available striker. Kane Wills played in the hole behind Prior in the final friendly at Met Police.

Matt Whitehead came through three-quarters of Tuesday night’s training and will be fit soon.
