REBELS SLIP ON A LEAFE

TWO GOAL-LINE clearances in the second half exacerbated Worthing's final disenchantment on Saturday while a Whyteleafe side unimpressive as an attacking force defended with composure a 28th-minute lead they scarcely deserved.

Nigel Golley, the 41-year-old veteran of Sutton United's 1987 FA Cup giant-killing victory over holders Coventry City, calmly steered away Sam Francis' goalbound hookshot after Francis had tipped the ball away from advancing reserve keeper Michael Ledbury.

Then in the last minute, 'Leafe midfielder Graham Harper, by a goalpost, knocked away yet another header from Mark Knee, this time at a corner by substitute Wesley Lopez, who was having his first league action this season.

Ledbury defied Rebels at two other corners, in which department Whyteleafe were heavily outscored, and also left his goal to hack away a Lopez cross in the latter stages.
