Queally strikes again at Goodwood

The man who rode Frankel to victory in the Sussex Stakes notched his sixth 2011 winner at the track when he was successful on board Sir Henry Cecil-trained Late Telegraph in the Buy A £10,000 Racing Post Bonus Yearling Maiden Stakes.

Queally landed the two Group 1 races of Glorious Goodwood, the Sussex and the Nassau, in which he rode Midday to an historic third straight win in the race.

This latest success - at 6/1 - was the biggest-priced winner on the six-race card, in which favourites prospered.

Jimmy Fortune and Swingland came in at 3/1 in the EBF Racing UK Maiden Fillies’ Stakes, James Rogers rode Pat’s Legacy in at 2/1 in the Betting Shops Back TurfTV Stakes (Handicap) and C Carroll’s mount Boston Blue was 9/4 joint favourite when winning the Halnaker Gentleman Amateur Riders’ Handicap.

Completing the line-up at the winners’ post were Adam Kirby and 3/1 shot Gung Ho Jack in the Parmnick Smythbury Nursery Stakes (Handicap) and Dane O’Neill on the similarly-priced Sluggsy Morant in the AMP Stakes handicap.

It was Goodwood’s third meeting in four days and the track looked in pretty good nick under those circumstances.

It was a lower-key affair than the weekend’s two big meetings, when races included the Celebration Mile and the Supreme Stakes, with the second part of the double-header a family fun day.

Goodwood’s next event is another weekend double - they race on Saturday, September 10 and Sunday 11.
