KEEPER HOUSE OFF IN UNITED DEFEAT

DESPITE having 10 men for more than 70 minutes, Worthing United had enough chances to progress in the John O'Hara Cup at Eastbourne United on Saturday.

United goalkeeper Paul House was sent-off for alleged violent conduct, although the decision confused many of the United players and officials.

To make things doubly worse for United, Eastbourne received a penalty which Scott McDonald scored for a 2-0 ahead. Lee Davis struck the opener on seven minutes with a 35-yard wonder strike.

Substitute Peter Raynsford '” normally a defender '” took over in goal and had a quiet time, with his side doing most of the attacking.

Dave Schneider, Bif Shelley, Neil Shelley, Paul Brown, and Stuart Sell all had decent chances.

Eastbourne's third came on 61 minutes when McDonald finished off a goalmouth scramble with an emphatic strike.

Manager Ian Browne said: "We played well, and in the circumstances it was the best football we have played for a while. We created chances, had lots of possession, and defended reasonably well."
