Katrina armed to wrestle the world in Las Vegas final

Armwrestler Katrina Blackman is heading to Las Vegas to compete in the Grand World Finals in June.

The 47-year-old won a European qualifier over the weekend on her left arm to book a spot at the prestigious global finals and a shot at the $40,000 prize money.

British champion Blackman, who competes for Pulborough club, Sussex Arms, had previously won the British qualifiers on both arms to take on the European event.

The Mannings Heath mother of three became a British novice champion last year on her left arm and took second on a right arm that she had severely broken and had septicaemia in 16 months previous.

In the latest qualifiers, where the top-three booked a place in Vegas, she missed out on qualifying on her troublesome right arm where she placed an impressive fourth, but eased to victory on her left arm.

Blackman said: “I cannot believe I got through to the finals, it’s going to be such a massive event, It’s even being televised.

“It’s going to be very tough with a lot of competition, as armwrestling is a really big thing in the states. Everyone will be wanting to win because prize money of £20,000 per arm up for grabs.

“It will be such an amazing experience and I can’t wait .

Blackman is also looking for sponsorship to fund the trip to Vegas and anyone interested in helping can contact us at the County Times.

She added: “I am desperately looking for a sponsor to help get me there. The final event is being televised and promoted by Monster Energy and all the top worldwide fitness magazines will be there.

“I will be able to put any company name on my competition top and jacket to give them some good exposure.”
