HOCKEY FESTIVAL IS FUN

THE Headless Chickens were pitted against the Comic Strippers. The Rum Bandits played the Pickled Newts. Who came out on top? Who cares? It was laughter all the way at Penguin International Mixed Hockey Festival.

If you saw nuns with hockey sticks or grown men wearing long blonde wigs around town over the Bank Holiday weekend, you may well have come across the guys and girls taking part in the festival. It is the largest of its type in Europe.

There were 82 teams from the UK and one from Stuttgart, Germany, who descended on the town to take part. With most treating it as an end-of-season knees-up, it was not just hockey on the agenda.

Drinks, dancing, and some things that naturally follow on from that, took place after play stopped. Games took place on Saturday, Sunday and Monday and at three venues around the town '” Worthing Leisure Centre, Northbrook Park and the multi-pitch Festival HQ at Palatine.
