Heritage confident of catching leaders

PETER Heritage believes Sidley United are the only team that can catch runaway Sussex League leaders Burgess Hill Town.

The Blues have made an impressive start to the defence of their title, losing just once in 18 games - but they are still a massive 13 points adrift of the Hillians.

Sidley have two games in hand and with their main rivals occupied by various cup competitions over the next few weeks this is the month when they can finally start eating into the lead.

"We can catch them," roared joint manager Heritage. "They haven t had a bad spell yet and every team goes through a bad run at some stage in a season."

He went on: "We are the only side capable of catching them and I think they are quite fearful of us because they know they can t turn us over like other sides."

Sidley play one of their games in hand on Saturday January 12 when they visit Whitehawk. Burgess Hill are in SCFA RUR Charity Cup action.

Chris Scott has been fined by the club for his part in the ugly scenes that marred the end of the recent friendly against Hastings Town. Former French Youth international Landry Zahana-Oni suffered a fractured cheekbone in the incident.
