Golf: They're Swingin' in the Rain for new captain Elaine

Club members made charity bids on which club would be drawn for her drive-in. The club drawn was her five-wood which Elaine used for a drive of 154 yards.

A bowmaker competition followed with 48 ladies taking part. The winning team with 74 points were Yvonne Dunckley, Lyn Santer and Val Swain. Runners-up with 69 were Jean Davies, Terry Payne and Marie Howlett.

Chichester’s Saturday ladies played in another competition with their new captain.

The winners with 60 points were captain Elaine Fell and Rebecca Curd and runners-up were Kathy Donohoe and Valerie Hall.

Money raised for the Lady Captain’s charity, the Chestnut Tree House, was the princely sum of £562.10.

COWDRAY PARK

Cowdray Park ladies’ November Stableford was played on a miserable misty and damp day, and the scores reflected this.

Scores: Div 1: Kate O’Kelly 28pts, Sue Brown 28; Div 2: Marilyn Davis 33, Janet Poat 28.

On one of the many beautiful days in November, Cowdray ladies played a three-ball better-ball, with two best scores to count. Winners, with a score of 75 points, were Terry Hughes, Sue Brown and June Page and second were Solveig Burton, Angela Pike and Sally Williams with 73.

The second round of Cowdray Park seniors’ turkey trot took place under damp, cold conditions.

The greens were unusually slow, with awkward pin positions, and very few players got to grips with them, as evidenced by the lower scoring.

One player who mastered the conditions was Ian Goodall, who scored 40 points, with 22 points on the front nine.

Five players – Gordon Kendall, Peter Clarke, Dave Gaff, Allen Sibley and Mike Holden – all scored 37 points, with Holden claiming second place on countback from Clarke. Two players, Roger Poat and Mel Milburn, recorded the same score as in round one. Goodall has now seized the overall lead with 75 points from Bill Hummerston on 73 and Holden and Kendall both on 72. The final and deciding round will be held on December 1.
