U’s set for League Cup action

Hastings United will be back in action tonight (Wednesday).

Amid all the excitement of the FA Cup, the U’s travel to lower grade Worthing for a Ryman League Cup fourth round tie. Kick-off is 7.45pm.

Although goalkeeper Matt Armstrong-Ford is out, player-manager Sean Ray said after the FA Cup draw at Harrogate Town on Saturday that “a lot of the boys will play” at the Worthing Plumbase Stadium.

United are 18th in the Premier Division with 13 points from 12 games, while Worthing are eighth in Division One South with 24 points from 16 outings.

The U’s have reached this stage by winning 1-0 at home to Lewes and 6-4 at home to Three Bridges. Worthing have beaten Horsham and Crawley Down Gatwick so far.

The winners will advance to the quarter-finals alongside the likes of Whitehawk, Concord Rangers, Thurrock and Thamesmead Town, all of whom booked their places last night.

United, by the way, were handed a trip to Sussex County League leaders Peacehaven & Telscombe in yesterday’s draw for the last 16 of the Sussex Senior Cup. Rye United will travel to East Preston or Steyning Town.
