U’s game still on; several off

Hastings United’s game away to Enfield Town today (Saturday) is due to go ahead.

Enfield’s official Tweeter feed posted this morning: “Massive game for The Town as we look to end our bad run against @hastingsufc. Huge efforts required from players and fans alike.”

It’s a big match for both clubs as they seek to pull away from the foot of the Ryman Football League Premier Division. Fourth-from-bottom United are one point and two places above their north London opponents with three games in hand.

United were 3-2 winners in a dramatic reverse fixture during November when they recovered from 2-1 down with 10 men. As it happens, that was their last league victory and they’ve drawn their last eight league fixtures. Kick-off is 3pm.

This morning’s wet weather, however, has put paid to almost all of the day’s Sussex County Football League programme. Among the matches off are Rye United v Shoreham, Sidley United v Worthing United, Bexhill United v Rustington and Wick v Westfield. Little Common’s game away to Broadbridge Heath is subject to a pitch inspection.
