Third-placed visit is cherished by Chichester ladies

On one of the hottest days of the year so far, Chichester Ladies II were always going to find it difficult against Rusthall in South East Counties division one west.

Chichester started brightly with neat passing between the midfield and attack and Chichester took the lead when Georgina Starkey found space and finished superbly from a tight angle.

This was quickly followed by another when Kerri Grant worked hard to win the ball back and beat the keeper to make it 2-0.

Rusthall seemed to have one game plan, which was to give it to their striker and hope she could produce something, and she did with a great run and good skill to make it 2-1 before half-time. Chichester came out for the second half determined to win and a lucky deflection from an Amber Maher shot found the net to make it 3-1 with 30 minutes to go.

Rusthall fought hard but Chichester controlled the game and could have stepped up a gear at any point, with several players playing really well but within themselves.

This well-earned three points mean Chichester finish a fantastic third in the league after being newly promoted last year.

Well done to the ladies for a great season.

CHICHESTER: Henry-Evans, Wright, Steed, Garner, Cole, Maher, Cottam-Verbruggen, Starkey, Clarke, Grant, Spencer, Subs: Knowles, Leogue, Harnett.
