The Sussex County Football League Division One game at home to Hailsham Town tonight (Thursday) has just been called-off due to a waterlogged pitch following the rain of last night and this morning.

A message from Rye’s official Twitter account at 12.38pm read: “Tonight’s game against Hailsham is OFF. Both The Salts and The Beaconsfield are under water, so can’t switch the venue. Ho hum.”

Although they finally managed to play their Parafix Sussex Senior Challenge Cup third round tie against Eastbourne Town at the third time of asking on Monday night, Rye have had 14 of their last 18 scheduled fixtures postponed.

The Quarterboys have played just one home match since mid-December and are still only midway through their league programme. What’s more, they remain involved in the Sussex RUR Charity Cup.

With the weather forecast for the next couple of days looking fairly encouraging, Rye will be hopeful of playing their first league game in four weeks at home to Lancing on Saturday.

Hastings United under-18s have also been hit by the latest band of wet weather. Their Ryman Youth League South Division game away to Peacehaven & Telscombe tonight has been called-off too.
