New Covid protocols have been introduced for training and matches, and whilst things aren’t quite what they used to be, everybody was delighted to be back on the field.

In warm conditions, on a tight, hard pitch, it was Atletico who started on the front foot as they started to get back into their pass and move groove.

Aaron Woodhams had an opportunity from an early free kick, and Romario Moratalla also went close although chances were at a premium with both defences performing well.

Bears benefited from a defensive lapse from Atletico to go one up, although the game continued to be tight.

Fin Ledingham performed strong in defence alongside Dan Klamm, with Euan Gulliver, Henry Dinsdale and Joshua Gibson causing something concern for the Bears defence.

Bears scored a second from a direct free kick and were looking comfortable.

Atletico began to come back into the game, and pulled one back direct from an Aaron Woodhams corner as Atletico increased the pressure.

Will Anderson went close with two good efforts and Josh Davidson was a constant menace as Atletico pressed for an equaliser.

As Atletico pushed forward, they had to be conscious of the risk from Bears on the break, with Jack Dann and Tim Clifford continuing to mop up at the back and Theo Botevyle continuing to impress in goal.

Manager Ricardo Moratalla said: “After almost five months without football, it was just a delight to be back out on the field.

“Our players have missed it, as have I and the coaching team.

“We took the opportunity to try players in a variety of positions and I’m proud of the effort they put in.”
