Possession proves futile for Clymping

CLYMPING Football Club suffered a disappointing 2-0 home defeat to Roffey in County League Division 3 on Saturday.

In what was the hosts’ first league game since mid-November, owing to postponements and cup commitments, they had a high percentage of possession but they failed to turn that into goals as the visitors took all three points.

Roffey went ahead after just 10 minutes through Sam Matthews, but Clymping kept knocking at the door and they could have drawn level through two good chances.

Both Nathan Parke and Kerry Hardwell were denied by resolute defending when clean through on goal before the break.

Both sides struggled to create many chances and that trend continued into the second half, before a brilliant goal all but ended the home side’s hopes of getting anything from the game.

Chris Dumbrill struck a 25-yard shot which flew over the head of Gary Wimbledon to seal the win for the away side.

Clymping boss Mike Williamson said: “It just wasn’t happening and it was very frustrating. On another day, we might have scored two or three but we didn’t and they hit us with two sucker punches.

“We’ll keep going and we’re now looking to build a decent squad for next season.”

Clymping are at second-placed Barnham on Saturday.
