Pagham strike late to deny Mullets all three points

ARUNDEL Football Club were forced to settle for a draw after Pagham’s Neil Murfin grabbed a late equaliser in their Sussex County League Division 1 match on Tuesday evening.

Mullets took the lead midway through the first half when Jordan Clark struck and they held on until late in the second half.

Arundel began brightly and could have gone a goal up inside two minutes. Pagham keeper James Binfield punched a corner straight to Rory Biggs but he shot wide.

Arundel did take the lead on the half-hour mark, though, as Clark’s deflected free kick floated into the net.

Pagham were the stronger side in the second half and put Arundel under pressure.

Scott Murfin went close to equalising for the home side but his free kick rebounded off the bar.

Pagham’s pressure did finally see them grab a late leveller. Scott Murfin fired a pin-point ball into the path of Neil Murfin, who slammed the ball home three minutes into injury-time.

Mullets host Croydon in the FA Cup extra preliminary round on Saturday.
