Nearly 100 teams tackle tournament

Little Common Football Club enjoyed a successful youth tournament weekend with just under 100 teams competing at the Recreation Ground.

The hosts proved successful in the under-15 age group, clinching the trophy following a 4-3 win over Hawks Youth in the final.

Tournament organiser Daniel Eldridge said: “It was a great weekend with lots of competitive and well-contested matches played in ideal conditions.

Finalists: under-9s - winners Hastings United, r/up SAFA Select; under-10s - winners SAFA Select, r/up West Hove Dynamos; under-11s - winners SAFA Select, r/up Sedlescombe Rangers; under-12s - winners Bexhill United, r/up West Hove Dynamos; under-13s - winners Sedlescombe Rangers B, r/up Sedlescombe Rangers A; under-14s - winners Bexhill Town, r/up Pevensey & Westham; under-15s - winners Little Common, r/up Hawks Youth.

Among the winners were Bexhill United u12s, who celebrated their first victory of the summer on Sunday. United won their group comfortably with four wins and one draw to earn a semi-final against Westfield, who they overcame 3-0.

In the final they met West Hove Dynamos. A high quality, end-to-end encounter finished 1-1 after extra-time, with Bexhill benefiting from a controversial penalty in the last minute.

The penalty shoot-out was equally close with Bexhill finally sealing victory by a 6-5 scoreline.
