Mullets share spoils as Hassocks fight back

Arundel Football Club conceded twice late on as they were pegged back in a 2-2 draw at Hassocks in County League Division 1 on Tuesday.

The visitors took the lead in the 23rd minute when James Wotherspoon finished with his left foot after good work from Ryan Warr.

Grant Thetford made it two just past the hour sliding in a Dave Hall free-kick and it seemed Mullets were on course for victory.

But with 15 minutes to go, Hassocks fought back with Phil Gault scoring his third in two games to halve the deficit.

Just five minutes later, Dan Smith equalised and both teams had to settle for a point with neither able to find a winner.

Mullets boss Brett Torode was happy enough with the performance and said: “Nothing is straightforward with us at the moment.

“We played excellently to go 2-0 up but again conceded from a corner.

“Grant showed a bit of naivety trying to pass back to Dave when he should have hit it forward and they equalised. But I can’t blame anyone, we played really well.”

The result leaves Arundel in 15th place. They play Hailsham on Saturday and entertain Pagham on Tuesday.
