League turn down Hornets reschedule attempt

Horsham boss Dominic Di Paola says he is at a loss to explain how his side can be without a scheduled game this weekend.

The Hornets even approached the league to see if they can arrange a game against Eastbourne United or Chichester City - both also without games.

But the club was told no, meaning they now have six games in 21 days in February, playing every Tuesday and Saturday.

Unbelievably, it is the club’s second free Saturday in three weeks - despite only three team in the whole division playing less than them.

Di Paola said: “Eastbourne United and Chichester have not got a game; why we can not get a game on we do not know.

“We have requested and asked the league and not been able to, so we will just have to wait.

“Chichester’s reserves have got a game, but senior fixtures have to be done by the end of April. Surely it makes sense to play the senior games first and reserve games later?

“They should start doing a second set of fixtures as well. I just wish we could get some more games on with some common sense.

“At this time of the season come February, teams should not have free weeks, even if they changed them so everyone had a game this week and a free one later in the season.

“We have six games in 21 days and the likelihood is some of them will be off.”

Horsham will train both Thursday night - when they have use of Lancing’s 3G pitch - and Saturday.

Di Paola added: “It’s just hard to get the fitness up. We looked tired with 25 minutes to go, but we are lucky to get that training facility.”
