The Golds picked up a 6-2 victory as George Gaskin bagged a hat-trick, with Michael Hendrick, Dan Kempson and George Landais also on the scoresheet.

Littlehampton boss Mark Bennett was delighted with his side’s performance against a Dorking side who were previously unbeaten in the league. He said: “It was really pleasing to pick up a win against Dorking, who are one of the favourites for the title this year.

“The first 20 minutes they gave us a real football lesson and hit a post, so if that had gone in it could have been a different game.

“But after that we managed to get a goal and began to get control of the game.

“It’s been a really good start for us and, hopefully, we can continue our form throughout the season.”

Littlehampton opened the scoring on 28 minutes when Gaskin latched on to a Kempson pass to bag his first.

Just four minutes later, Golds got their second when Hendrick cut inside and crashed a shot into the net.

Kempson then got on the scoresheet to put Golds three goals to the good seven minutes before the interval.

Gaskin then grabbed two goals in seven second-half minutes to secure his hat-trick, before his strike partner Landais made it 6-0 with 20 minutes still to play.

Dorking did manage to pull two goals back late on through Jerome Beckles and Alex McGregor, but those were just consolations as Littlehampton went top with their victory.
