FA Vase heroes back in action

Four days after the euphoria of their latest FA Vase triumph, Rye United will be back in action tonight (Wednesday).

Manager Scott Price will be eager to ensure there is no hangover from the weekend victory away to Three Bridges when the Quarterboys take on Pagham in round two of the Sussex Senior Cup.

Although Rye have been drawn at home, the match will be played at The Caburn, home of Ringmer FC, with The Salts still out of action following August’s arson attack on the Sidney Allnutt Pavilion.

Rye are currently sixth in Division One of the Sussex County Football League - three places and five points behind Pagham but with six games in hand.

The sides fought out a 1-1 draw after extra-time in a John O’Hara League Cup third round tie on November 20 - their one previous meeting this season - and that match is due to be replayed this Saturday.

Price said he won’t risk Jack Dixon after the midfielder hobbled off against Bridges, but Liam Upton should return for a match which will kick-off at 7.30pm. The winners will be away to Wick or Worthing.
