Bognor duo set for debuts - Brighton stand in way of Sussex Senior Cup defence

Rocks bosses Jack Pearce and Robbie Blake are likely to thrust new signings Jerry Puemo and Tom Dinsmore into service tonight (Weds) when holders Bognor host Brighton U23s in the quarter-final of the Sussex Senior Cup - weather permitting.

Central defender Puemo arrived from Isthmian premier division counterparts Kingstonian last week, while midfielder Dinsmore joined on loan from Premier League Bournemouth.

Both were set to feature in the squad for Saturday's home game against Bishop's Stortford but the league fixture fell foul the weather. But both players trained with their new team-mates on Monday and are poised to be in action when the young Seagulls flock to the Nye Camp.

Pearce said: "We have a long and proud history in the Sussex Senior Cup and having won it on numerous occasions -- the last being last season with a win over Burgess Hill Town, of course -- we're keen to do as well as possible.

"We beat Brighton 5-1 in last season's semi-final but that should in no way be an indication of how this game will unfold. Brighton have an excellent squad of players to call upon and boast some real talent so it'll be interesting to see how strong a side they put out. Once way or another it'll be a real test but we very much look forward to it.

"The match also gives us an opportunity to look at Jerry and Tom and we do this looking ahead to Saturday's league game at Haringey Borough, which is so important as we try to climb the table to get in those play-off places.

"At present the pitch is in good condition and we are hopeful the game will go ahead. But with rain forecast on Wednesday afternoon, we will, of course, keep an eye on things and update supporters as the day progresses."
