Eight-goal blitz lifts Bexhill

BEXHILL United romped to an 8-0 win at home to the only team below them in the Sussex League.

Quite how much should be read into such a scoreline against an admittedly woeful Upper Beeding is debatable but scoring eight goals and keeping their first clean sheet of the season was immensely satisfying for all associated with the club.

Manager Tony Monk said: "It was a vast improvement from us, they certainly knocked the ball around well and the whole team was very supportive of each other. We played some good football but the other side weren't very good. It was so one-sided, we hit the bar and post about five times, we dominated from start to finish and you can't do any more than beat a side 8-0."

The return of skipper Benjie Symes undoubtedly galvanized the side and they stroked the ball around in the sort of fashion which they need to reproduce on a more frequent basis.

Symes himself set the ball rolling on the quarter hour mark before Dom Bigg and Conrad Sparkes made it 3-0 at the break.

Big Del Longley came up from the back to net number four minutes into the second half prior to Sparkes completing his hat-trick with goals five and six.

Young Alex Hesmer scored his third goal in two games 13 minutes from time and Kris Kayne, making his season's debut having recently returned to the club from Westfield, completed the rout with two minutes remaining on the watch.

Bexhill are back at the Polegrove on Saturday December 20 for the visit of Franklands Village.
