Sidley struggle to contain Thorns

SIDLEY remain rooted to the foot of the Division Two table in the Sussex Cricket League after contesting a draw away to Goring-by-Sea.

The hosts amassed a daunting 276-4 off 53 overs after being asked to take first knock with Sam Thorns carrying his bat for an undefeated 136.

Wes Tate (1-66 off 16 overs) and Peter King (1-47 off 14 overs) returned the best figures in an attack which conceded 33 fours and one six.

Sidley got off to a great start in reply through King (67 which included 10 fours and two sixes) and Sam Steele (50) who put on 124 for the first wicket.

Once they were separated the visitors slumped to 164-5 before eventually finishing on 189-5 off 43 overs.
