Park’s unbeaten start comes to an end

CROWHURST Park suffered their first defeat of the season when they lost by just five runs away to Hellingly.

The visitors had travelled to Horsebridge with confidence on a high after winning their last three matches in Division Three (East) of the Sussex Cricket League.

Hellingly totalled 196 off 51.2 overs after deciding to take first knock. Former Hastings Priory all-rounder Tim van Noort top-scored with 71.

The pick of the Park bowlers was Richard Coleman who finished with fine figures of 5-58 off 18.2 overs, while Paul Brookes claimed 3-23 off 12 overs.

In-form Martin Barry got Park off to a good start in reply with 50 and despite decent knocks from Colin Ayres (24 off 14 balls), Brookes (25) and Coleman (14 not out), they were dismissed for 191.

The introduction of van Noort in the gloomy conditions did the damage as he returned match-winning figures of 5-12 off 6.2 overs.
