Clymping set for crunch final day after EP defeat

LOCAL rivals Clymping and East Preston could not head into the final weekend of the West Sussex Invitation League season with more contrasting aims after the latter’s comfortable victory on Saturday.

East Preston knocked off Clymping’s modest total of 142 for the loss of just two wickets on Saturday to all but seal second spot in Division 1, ahead of their clash with champions Crawley Eagles on Saturday.

Jack Sunderland’s unbeaten 96 – which took him to a total of 560 runs for the season and saw him take over as the division’s leading scorer – saw them easily home in just 17.2 overs after some excellent bowling spells from the EP attack.

Clymping, however, head into their final game of the season just above the relegation zone, one point ahead of second-from-bottom Southwick and seven in front of basement side Broadwater.

Clymping host Portslade this Saturday and will be assured of safety if they win, while EP are hoping to inflict Eagles’ first defeat of the season.
