Can Sidley stay top of pile?

Last weekend couldn’t have panned out any better for Sidley because they beat title rivals Burgess Hill by three wickets and previous leaders Hellingly were shot out for 37 by second-bottom Keymer & Hassocks.

Sidley captain Scott Woodroffe said: “I still can’t believe that. I think it goes to show the competitiveness of the league this year. Not many people would’ve given them (Keymer) much of a hope at the start, but anyone on their day can beat anyone.”

The upshot is that Sidley are 19 points clear of second-placed Hellingly, although third-placed Seaford are only two points further back and have a game in hand having been on their free week last weekend.

“We really have to knuckle down and make the most of it,” continued Woodroffe. “We’ve had a couple of chances before and let it slip. Each of the times we’ve gone top of the league we’ve not followed it up.”

The big games keep on coming because Sidley go to Seaford tomorrow (Saturday) with the opposition no doubt desperate for revenge following the 10-wicket drubbing they suffered in the reverse fixture on May 7.

Richard Harrison is unavailable, but Paul Nice might come back into the reckoning and Sidley are hoping that Peter King will recover from a foot/calf injury.
