There were two league groups that entered the Gullick Cup. Slinfold won our league, not losing a match and also beating AJW in the group stages.

AJW finished second in their group due to a bonus point victory beating the Kings Arms, Billingshurst at their home pitch Wisborough Green.

AJW played the Sussex Oak at Warnham in the semi-final, handsomely pushing them aside to put AJW in the group final against Slinfold who beat Crabtree Cavaliers in their semi-final.

There was a great spirit around the ground for the final, especially as everything was being prepared for Sussex Vs Nottingham this coming weekend and it was a great opportunity and experience to play on Horsham’s main pitch.

AJW batted first with some top scores from Matt Hoyte, Alex Barron, Bradley Beale, Richard Bell, Graeme Williams. AJW wickets: Matt Hoyte 3, Jack Sizzey Carter 2, Grant Williams 1, Joel Colbran 1.

AJW finished on 166 for 4 and Slinfold finished on 160 for 9. The last over provided a very tense and entertaining finish to the game where Red Lyon could have snatched the victory out of AJW hands due to some entertaining bowling from Captain Chris Plaister who was obviously suffering from the pressure of the occasion. Red Lyon were unable to get across the finish line needing 6 runs off the last ball, leading AJW to the victory in their first entry into the Gullick Cup.

The game was played in great spirit and sportsmanship and the two sides were evenly matched and a great occasion by all.
