Stand-in captain Colin Smith was still in charge in Andy Reeves' absence and believes they are desperate for a win.

He said: "We've got to find a win from somewhere soon. We have Southwater and Clymping to play then our free week. By that time Andy should be back and hopefully we can keep the settled squad we've had for the past few weeks."

Despite Jack Sunderland hitting 104, Broadwater's James Iago stole the show with a bat and ball performance, first smashing 80 runs not out before claiming 7-53.

Graham Waller (28) and Bob Reynolds (28) made a good start for Broadwater after they were stuck in, putting on 47 for the first wicket.

Iago then smashed his superb 80 not out, which was well supported by Nigel Waller's 50, to help them to 229-5.

Jack Sunderland (2-14) and Chris Williams (2-52), collected the best figures from their attack.

EP initially crashed to 36-5 in their response.

Sunderland, however, rallied with 104, including 13 fours and three sixes, as well as a sixth-wicket partnership off 100 with Sam Mellor (19), to put them back in contention.

Iago, though, claimed the final wickets, despite Tom Chamberlein hanging on with 19*, as EP finished at 204 all out.

Smith said: "The wicket didn't look too good and it wasn't. The boys tried hard and Mark (Coskin) and Tom (Chamberlain) had good opening spells with the ball but we couldn't keep it going.

"Getting ourselves to 36-5 in the chase didn't help, but Jack did a fantastic job and took the attack to them for his 100, before he was given LBW.

"Sam then got out and although we thought we were in with a chance, it didn't work out how we would have liked."

Clymping fell victim to Southwater in their clash in Division 1, as they went down by four wickets.

The result, however, leaves Clymping just outside the relegation zone, seven points above second-bottom East Preston.

Having been inserted Clymping made 157 all out after 48.2 overs.

Southwater then replied with 158-6 as Alex Harding top scored with 64 runs.

Richard Waddington led the Clymping attack with 5-42.

Local honours in the Sussex League Division 3 West 2nd XI went to Littlehampton 2nd as they beat Arundel by six wickets in a high-scoring game.

Arundel opener Richard Diplock hit 85, while Mark Barry smashed 126 to help them to 285-6 where they declared after 46 overs.

Amjad Mohsin led the attack for Littlehampton taking 4-46, while Tim Peters chipped in with 2-61.

Littlehampton's Geoffrey Cole smashed 114, Darren Bazley hit 42 and Mohsin made 48, to see them over the line with 289-4.

There were runs galore for Arundel over the weekend as a batsmen in every side managed to hit a century.

Ed Lewis made 104 for the first team, Barry 126 for the seconds, Tim Pitt 108 for the thirds, and Mike Hobden secured 111 for the Sunday side.
