Chance to see champion stock at stud open day

BRENDON Stud at Pyecombe has established an outstanding reputation for breeding top-class competition horses and many of its stallions combine stud duties with competing at top level.

The stud is an integral part of Brendon Equestrian centre, a family-run business headed by Cyril and Valerie Light.

While the centre runs a wide range of horse shows, supported by riders from across the south east, as well as a saddlery and feed shop, daughter Shirley and her team run the stud.

All breeding is now done by artificial insemination, with semen collected on site from the stud's stallions. The stud launched its artifical insemination unit back in 2001, with Shirley becoming a fully-qualified technician the following year.

All the stallions will be on show at Brendon Stud's annual open day on Saturday, starting at 11am, which includes a parade of stallions, and Shirley and vet Ed Lyall will be there to answer questions. Everyone is welcome.
