Bowmen bang on target to beat Bognor

Chichester Bowmen hosted Bognor Regis Archery Club at Oaklands Park for the first round of the Sussex County Albion League.

The league was formed in the early 1970s and its main purpose is to enable archers of all standards to meet in friendly competition.

Chichester Bowmen were division-one champions in 2011.

Each team consisted of the four top scoring archers on the day, shooting either a compound bow or a recurve bow.

Archers using compound bows had their scores adjusted by 100 points, because of the higher accuracy of a compound bow, to enable mixed teams of compound and recurve archers to compete.

Shooting three dozen arrows at 80 yards, three dozen at 60 yards and three dozen at 50 yards, Chichester Bowmen won the round convincingly with 3270 out of a possible 3888. Bognor Regis scored 3143.

Chichester’s team comprised Dave Wakeford, Eric Pember, Paul Johnson and Huw Williams.

Shooting for Bognor were Phil Adams, Mandy Linn, Linda Palma and Bob New.
