Bexhill get season up and running

A CHARACTER building second half comeback saw Bexhill United get their season up and running with a 2-1 win at Upper Beeding.

The result meant they were able to shrug aside the blues from their unfortunate 5-1 opening day mauling at Ifield Edwards.

Debutant Dave Williams spearheaded the recovery, scoring within a quarter of an hour of entering the field and fellow sub Conrad Sparkes sealed a deserved win five minutes from time.

Manager Len Watkins said: "It wasn't a classic. We didn't play as well as we did the week before but we showed a lot of character. Second half was pretty awful all round. I don't think they really deserved much out of it and they are not a very good side to be honest. After last week it would have been disastrous to have lost to a poor side."

Bexhill continue their Sussex Division Three campaign on Saturday August 30 with a trip to Storrington.
