Baker savours great experience

Running starlet Grace Baker described her international appearance last weekend as “a great experience”.

The 15-year-old talent represented the Great Britain under-20 team against the USA and a European select squad at the Bupa Great International Cross-Country Challenge.

Baker said: “It was a great experience and I can take a lot away from that. It was definitely my biggest meeting so far, but I really enjoyed it and makes me want to do well in the future.”

Despite having another four years in the age group, the Hastings Athletic Club produced a good, solid run to finish 11th overall and fourth-scoring Brit in the 4km junior women’s race.

Pett-based Baker crossed the line in a time of 15:43 at Holyrood Park, Edinburgh - three seconds slower than the third-scoring British runner Laura Muir, but two ahead of both Amy Griffiths and Poppy Blake.

The British team mangers were delighted with Baker’s performance and looked on it as preparation for next year’s European Championships in Hungary and World Championships in Poland.
