Art and racing go together at Goodwood

Nearly 250 yeares ago, Renowned artist George Stubbs spent nine months at Goodwoood House as a guest of the Duke of Richmond. During this mtime he drew inspiuration from the beautiful Sussex landscape, the racing world and the third Duke's horses.

One of Stubbs's most beautiful paintings-the Duchess of Richmond and Lady George Lennox Watching the Duke's Racehorses at Exercise is famous for its vibrant red and yellow quarter sheets worn by the horses, and Chichester Cathedral spire in the background.

A variation of the current Duke of Richmond's racing silks is now carried by horses under the ownership of Goodwood Racehorse Owners Group and recently 300 members of the group descended on Goodwood House for a parade of horses and celebration lunch.
