Yapton man dies after being hit by train

A MAN from Yapton was killed last night when he was hit by a train in Chichester, British Transport Police have announced today (Thursday, August 14).

Officers were called to the line close to Drayton Lane level crossing, at 8pm last night.

Passengers travelling from Havant to Brighton faced delays about an hour and replacement buses were arranged.

A spokesman for British Transport Police said: “A 57-year-old man, from Yapton, was pronounced dead at the scene by paramedics from the South East Coast Ambulance Service.

“The incident is currently not being treated as suspicious.”

He added: “The man’s family have been informed and a file will be prepared for the coroner.”
