Worthing taxi driver attack: Pair on camera

POLICE have released CCTV pictures of a couple they want to speak to in relation to the armed robbery of a Worthing taxi driver.

The robbery happened at 12.50am on Saturday, August 18, in Crawley, after the 47-year-old cabbie from Offington picked up a man and woman from Worthing railway station.

The couple paid 40 towards an agreed fare of 55 to get to Gatwick and directed the driver to a block of flats in Hambleton Hill, Southgate, where they claimed they would collect the rest of the money.

But after the cabbie stopped to let out the woman and turn the car around, the male passenger leaned forward and pressed a flick-knife to the terrified driver's throat, before demanding the 40 and the rest of the driver's takings.

Both the man and woman are described as in their mid-20s and smartly dressed.

The man was mixed-race, of medium-build, with dark, shaved hair, large, short sideburns, thick eyebrows and olive skin.

The woman was medium-build, with shoulder-length hair.

Both appeared to be under the influence of drink and drugs.

DC Caroline Harsley said: "I am confident that someone will recognise these people from the images we have released.
