WILLIAMSON'S WEEKLY NATURE NOTES

I HAVE shrews in my house. The one in the photograph is outside of course but all the others are in here.

It is really weird. I catch a glimpse of something all the time out of the corner of my eye but by the time I've turned my head it's gone.

Sometimes I wonder if I did see it. Or did I imagine it.

They make no sound. Just this sudden flash of dark shadow in the corner of the room and a feeling that I am being watched.

It is an old house. It was built for the gamekeepers over 100 years ago, when Willy James entertained King Edward VII to shoot pheasants.

I still find ancient Purdey whole brass case cartridges in the garden. Indeed, the royal party used to have their luncheon in what is now my garage, so there are many stories.
