Wick shop severely damaged by fire

SEVEN people were forced to leave their homes due to a fire in the early hours of this morning (Friday, June 25).

Flats near True Blue Preceint, in Wick Street, Wick, were evacuated by firefighters who were dealing with a blaze in Sunrise, an Eastern European food shop in the parade, which broke out at about 2am.

Niall Cooper, station commander at Littlehampton fire station, said that the fire has spread to the shop's roof void, and so was in danger of spreading to neighbouring properties.

"The residents were asked to leave as a precaution, as we could see smoke coming from the flats, and the danger of the fire spreading."

The shop was severely damaged, and the cause is under investigation.

Fire crews from Littlehampton, East Preston and Arundel were at the scene until about 5am.
