Where has all the money gone?

The cash crisis facing West Sussex hospitals has reached such gigantic proportions that the county's MPs are meeting the strategic health authority again, demanding to know where all the extra NHS funding has gone.

They will suggest the county was not given sufficient funding in the first place to meet its growing needs '“ at a time when more housing is being imposed on the area,

The meeting, taking place at Westminster as the WSG went to press, comes in the wake of a report by district auditor Helen Thompson, highlighting serious concerns about the huge financial deficit facing Surrey and Sussex Strategic Health Authority.

Watchdogs warn that it could hit patient services in future, but the impact has already been felt, with ward closures in almost every hospital in the county, and at Redhill following the transfer of emergency services there from Crawley and Horsham Hospital.
